Grand Re-Opening

Grand Re-Opening

Today was a big day at work as we celebrated our finished remodel with a Grand Re-Opening of our Walmart in Marion, Iowa. The photo posted shows the management team, Cartpusher Darren and members of the Marion Chamber of Commerce, cutting the ribbon to officially re-open the store to the public. I have been at this store for most of its existence-except for when it opened because I was working in Lexington, KY at the time.

When I came to Iowa, I did not know which store would want me. I was so blessed to be a part of this store and continue to be blessed(with its ups and downs) as an Associate. This is my 10th year as a Walmart Associate and looking back, I would not trade it for anything else. This group is a wonderful bunch to work with.

And as the saying around the company goes, “We are Saving Money so you can Live Better”.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it.

To Gamble or not to Gamble?

Here’s my story–

Today became a big day in the life of casino supporters and opponents, like me. It was the day they would find out if our beloved city of Five Seasons would receive a license to have a casino brought to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Mayor, Ron Corbett, and his staff were on hand to hear the final recommendation from the Iowa Gaming Commission Board in Council Bluffs, IA. The following word from four of the five members were not what they wanted to hear, “NO”.

Cedar Rapids was denied a license for a casino. The vote was 4-1 against a license. 3 years of hard work–from a mayor who doesn’t give a rats-tail about our city streets–down the drain.

I, for one, am glad that they said NO. I praise the commission for denying our beloved city the license. Why?

Jobs would have been taken away from other casinos and other area businesses where the casinos are located, crime rates would double and most of all……not enough community support. The Mayor claimed there was enough community support; I don’t buy that at all.

Now Mayor Ron Corbett can focus on getting our streets fixed, getting more jobs by other means into downtown and getting out to listen to the people instead of sitting behind his desk twiddling his thumbs, wasting our tax dollars on some silly casino plan that went belly-up.

As for the opponents of the casino(yours truly included), we can all breathe a sigh of relief and life will go on, now that we know that a casino is NOT coming to Cedar Rapids.

Waterpark anyone???

That’s my story……..and I am sticking to it!!!

Update on 50 miles

Mark Forstrom, the man who turned 50 yrs old today and ran 50 miles from Cedar Falls to Cedar Rapids to raise funds for Tiny Hands, an organization that is fighting sex trafficking in Nepal, DID IT!!!

As of the night of the run, 218 people have pledged a total of $14,538.50(not including those who pledged via the internet). Now you say, how did that happen?

What people did was they would pledge an amount per mile.

Here is some startling info via Mark Forstrom–
“Why fight Sex Trafficking in Nepal? Each year in Nepal, an estimated 10,000-15,000 girls are trafficked across the border where they are sold into Indian brothels and forced to become prostitutes. These girls range between ages 7 and 24, with an average age of 15.”

If you like to know more about this organization, “Tiny Hands”, here is a short 6 minute video explaining–

Again, congratulations to Mark Forstrom for completing the 50 mile run for his 50th Birthday and raising over $14,000 for Tiny Hands.

Here’s my story……

Today is 3/14/14, take the first three numbers, 314, put a dot in between the 3 and the 1 and what do you get? You get “Pi”. Yep, that’s right. Today is “Pi Day”. What is so significant of this number?

Wikipedia tells it this way:
“Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (or 3/14 in the U.S. month/day date format), since 3, 1, and 4 are the three most significant digits of π in the decimal form. In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day.
In the year 2015, Pi Day will have special significance on 3/14/15 at 9:26:53 a.m. and p.m., with the date and time representing the first 10 digits of π.
Pi Approximation Day is observed on July 22 (or 22/7 in the day/month date format), since the fraction 22⁄7 is a common approximation of π.

Go out and have some Pi(e). Save some for me, ok?

That’s my story………and I am sticking to it.

Son of God movie

Went to see the movie from 20th Century Fox, “Son of God”. The movie is well worth the price. This movie pretty much hits what the Bible says. Diogo Morgado portrays the Messiah very well. Roma Downey plays Mary, the mother of Jesus. You may remember her from the TV series “Touched By An Angel” with Della Reese. I give this movie the full 5 Stars.

There is another movie coming out this month on March 21st called “God NOT Dead”. I believe this movie will be a hit too when it hits theaters. Willie Robertson has an appearance in this movie.

So why all the “Christian” movies all of a sudden, you ask? Well the message is simple, God’s truth is TRUE.

That’s my story……..and I am sticking to it.

Tim Wilson 1961-2014

The world of Comedy has lost another great comedian. This past week it was Harold “Egon” Ramis, who I remember from the movie series of Ghostbusters and was a wonderful director. And now Tim Wilson is the latest to go on to Comedy Heaven.

Tim Wilson passed away in Nashville last night of an apparant heart attack. He was only 52 years of age. Plenty of folks are paying tributes to him and his comedy today. He was one who will write a comedy bit “on the fly” whenever he appears on a radio show, especially The Bob and Tom Show, where he was a regular guest. The bit that sticks out in my mind involves Chick McGee capping the oil spill. Let me give you a recap of the oil spell…..err……oil spill. BP was responsible for an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico back in 2010. It was the worst spill to date. You can Google the info on that, but getting back to what I am tributing here, here is “Little Timmy” Wilson in one of his “on the fly” bits on the Bob and Tom Show singing about Chick capping the oil spill–http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYagnNJRZRg&list=PLzeCIR5RYCYY6g6KTOsy2VYZw84CjTaJx&feature=share&index=18

If you want more comedy bits from Tim Wilson, The Bob and Tom Show is on YouTube–https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRizlNzRDzYxS3NgDQXtueQ

On behalf of “Buddy’s Ramblings” I would like to send my condolences to Tim Wilson’s family during this time of sorrow.

Rest In Peace brother Tim Wilson.

That’s my story…….and I am sticking to it.
